Work

Major bodies of work include Interior and Exterior Steel Sculpture, Painting and Poster design.

Dr. John Stritch had a varied career.

This 1971 Brutalist, Abstract Expressionist oil painting shows Dr. Stritch's love for language, as it becomes the textural surface of a large and tall canvas. In an inventive technique, this background layers of this work seem to straddle the line between print and oil painting, as the paint has been applied to the canvas in an altered mono-print fashion- lifted from another surface, rather than applied with a brush. The linework that encompasses the composition evokes the suggestion of an indiscernable written language. The work is meant to ask the viewer to consider antiquity, humanity, and inspire wonder in the unknown past of human culture. The impasto red center of the work has a luminous quality, that is expertly crafted through brutal strokes in an underlying black layers. This work will be included in John's forthcoming biography.
